ABQAURP Diplomate attains Fellow status from ACHE


ABQAURP would like to congratulate one of our Diplomates, Theodore B. Podkul, Jr., on his advancement to Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, the nation’s leading professional society for healthcare executives. To obtain board certification and Fellow status from the Board of Governors, candidates must fulfill multiple requirements, including passing a comprehensive examination, meeting academic and experiential criteria, earning continuing education credits and demonstrating professional/community involvement.

In his 40 years as a distinguished health systems executive, Mr. Podkul has also received national examination based certifications in health care compliance, behavioral health care management and nursing home/assisted living management.

Mr. Podkul received his ABQAURP Certification in Health Care Quality and Management in 1987 and is a Fellow of ABQAURP’s American Institute for Healthcare Quality. He is currently a member of the ABQAURP Board of Directors and is serving as Secretary.





ABQAURP Diplomate named new Chief Medical Officer


Provena United Samaritans Medical Center announces the appointment of Anil Gopinath, MD to the position of Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Gopinath has been affiliated with the Veteran Affairs (VA) Illiana Healthcare System (VAIHCS) since 2002 as a Staff Internist. He has served as the Associate Section Head of Primary Care at VAIHCS for the University of Illinois, College of Medicine Urbana-Champaign from 2002 to 2008, Clinical Assistant Professor-Internal Medicine, and, most recently, the VA Site Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program for the College of Medicine.

Dr. Gopinath completed his Internal Medicine residency from St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) as well as a Fellow of American Institute of Healthcare Quality (FAIHQ). He has attained Board Certification in Healthcare Management from the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) and American College of Physician Executives (CPE) as well as Board Certification in Quality Management, Patient Safety and Risk Management from the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review (CHCQM). He is currently pursuing his Masters Degree in Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh. Dr. Gopinath is licensed to practice internal medicine in the State of Illinois.

Dr. Gopinath and his wife, Latha, reside in Champaign with their two children.
