How does HCQM Board Certification with Physician Advisor Sub-Specialty Compare to Advanced Physician Advisor Board Certification?

The Health Care Quality & Management Board Certification (CHCQM) is a foundational credential offered by ABQAURP. It is open to all eligible health care professionals (physicians, nurses, case managers, executives, etc.). However, only physicians are eligible for the Physician Advisor Sub-Specialty. As the sub-specialty certifications are a part of the HCQM Exam, you do not need to take an additional exam to achieve the CHCQM-PHYADV designation, however there are additional eligibility requirements for the HCQM Physician Advisor Sub-Specialty certification. These requirements are less stringent than what is required for the Advanced Physician Advisor Certification Exam.

You do not need to take the HCQM Exam to be eligible for the Advanced Physician Advisor Certification Exam.

The Advanced Physician Advisor Certification (CPHYADV) Exam is designed specifically for U.S.-licensed physicians who have substantial experience serving in a physician advisor role. This advanced-level certification is intended for professionals who are actively involved in complex areas of health care operations, including utilization management, clinical documentation integrity (CDI), regulatory compliance, medical necessity review, denial prevention and appeals, quality improvement, and interdisciplinary collaboration across health care systems.

The Advanced Physician Advisor Certification is geared toward physicians who have developed a deeper understanding of health care regulations, payer processes, hospital operations, and leadership responsibilities associated with physician advisory practice. The examination assesses advanced knowledge, critical thinking, and practical application of physician advisor principles in real-world health care environments.

Both certifications are available exclusively to physicians holding an active U.S. medical license and is recommended for those with significant experience in physician advisory services, hospital leadership, case management collaboration, utilization review, or related areas of health care administration and clinical operations.
